LWG Regional Meeting - India 2018

Two of the LWG team - Adam Hughes, Facilitator, and Deborah Taylor, Project Manager, travelled to India on 1st February 2018 to spend a short time visiting some of our member leather manufacturers in the Chennai area, before hosting a Leather Working Group Regional Meeting at the Park Hyatt, Chennai on Saturday 3rd February 2018.

This was the second regional meeting to be held in Chennai and again we had a really positive reception with interesting discussion amongst the delegates.

On Friday 2nd February, Rathnam Leather and Alina Pvt opened their doors and showed us their facilities.  It was interesting to see the pride with which both companies operate and we enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time talking about their plans for growth and improved environmental ambitions.

Our regional meetings are intended to make the Leather Working Group more accessible to those members who aren’t able to attend the twice yearly main member meetings (held in Hong Kong and Europe or America each year).  There were 110 delegates in attendance at the meeting in Chennai, which included presentations on the current development initiatives within the LWG.  Members were also brought up to date on the progress of LWG’s working groups - the Technical Sub-Group, the CETP Sub-Group and the Supplier Sub-Group, along with benchmarking statistics.  The meeting was followed by a networking buffet that was kindly sponsored by Stahl.

The next LWG full member meeting will be held in Hong Kong on Saturday 17th March 2018 immediately after APLF.

The Leather Working Group is expanding in scope and membership with almost 400 leather manufacturers under audit, over 50 supplier members and more than 60 brand members (representing over 100 individual brand companies).  The group continues to meet growing needs and provides a mechanism for environmentally preferred leather, produced by responsible manufacturers that have been assessed for appropriate environmental stewardship practices.

Thank you to Stahl for assisting with the organisation and for sponsoring the buffet during the meeting.
